Pupils in Hedgehogs class at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe enjoyed an unforgettable day at the theatre as they watched The Gruffalo come to life on stage.

The production was full of music, dancing and excitement, with children captivated by the much-loved story throughout the performance. The theatre trip gave pupils the opportunity to experience a live adaptation of the famous picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, which tells the story of Mouse’s adventure through the deep, dark wood and his encounters with a range of colourful characters.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with smiles all around from start to finish. Reflecting on the day, Isaac summed up the excitement perfectly, saying: “My favourite thing about today was everything.”

The Gruffalo has been touring nationally and internationally since 2001 and has been performed thousands of times for audiences around the world. Seeing the story brought to life on stage was a wonderful experience for the pupils, who were fully immersed in Mouse’s journey and the magical world of the Gruffalo.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for Hedgehogs class to enjoy theatre, storytelling and the arts, creating memories that will stay with them long after the final curtain call.
