Pupils in Squirrels Class at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Newton Aycliffe have been deepening their understanding of Creation and Covenant through the story of Noah and God’s rainbow promise.
As part of their learning, the children reflected on ways to celebrate the beauty of creation through song, poetry and art. Inspired by the work of renowned environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy, the pupils took their learning outdoors and used natural materials to create a range of beautiful artworks.
Using items found in nature, the children carefully designed and arranged mandalas, hearts and spirals, exploring how natural objects can be transformed into creative and meaningful pieces of art. The activity encouraged pupils to look closely at the world around them and appreciate the beauty of God’s creation.
The outdoor learning experience provided an opportunity for children to combine creativity with their Religious Education studies, helping them to make connections between faith, nature and artistic expression.
Squirrels Class thoroughly enjoyed exploring the outdoors and expressing their ideas through natural art, bringing their learning about Creation and Covenant to life in a memorable and engaging way.
